Description
Not every important story is an easy one to tell.
Some experiences divide life into before and after.
Loss. Rejection. Illness. Discrimination. Family rupture. Relationship breakdown. Financial hardship. Violence. Addiction. Isolation. Workplace experiences. Identity struggles. Accidents. Grief. Experiences that may not fit any simple label at all.
And sometimes what someone carried was never visible to anyone else.
What I Carried is a guided digital Story Gift created for those parts of a life.
It is not therapy.
It does not diagnose trauma, promise healing or tell someone how they should understand what happened.
Instead, it gives the storyteller something simpler and more human:
permission and structure to tell as much or as little of their story as they choose.
The experience explores life before a difficult chapter, what changed, what remained unsaid, people who mattered, identity before and afterward, survival, boundaries, meaning, what was lost, what remained and what the storyteller wants to carry forward.
The storyteller remains in control.
Sensitive prompts must allow them to continue without disclosing something they do not want to revisit.
They may tell the story.
They may tell only part of it.
They may keep something private.
They may decide they are not ready.
They may skip it completely.
There is no requirement to complete every question for the story to have value.
Photos and personal memories can be added where appropriate. Progress can be saved locally and returned to later, with backup and restore options available.
When the storyteller chooses, what they have written can become a private personal storybook that can be saved or printed as a PDF.
This experience does not ask:
“How did you overcome it?”
Sometimes there is no simple overcoming.
It asks something more open:
What did you carry, what did it change, and what does that story mean to you now?
